Dr. Nassab’s Clinical Discussions:

I. Findings
Arthritis is Inflammation of a joint, usually accompanied by pain, swelling, and stiffness, resulting from infection, trauma, degenerative changes, metabolic disturbances, or other causes. It occurs in various forms, such as bacterial arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis.
I thought a wide definition may help us with understanding arthritis. It is the most utilized term in health care.
My patient was a 26-year-old male college student. He was very athletic and healthy. He came to see me after complaining of midback, neck, and arm pain while swimming. X-rays revealed osteo arthritis in his midback and neck. This resulted in degenerative disc disease and nerve impingement. (Subluxation)
II. Treatment
Treatment began immediately as he wanted to compete in a swim event. He was unable to lift and pull with his right arm. Chiropractic adjustments are the best treatment for this process and reversal of the degeneration. He spent some time in the beginning with multiple adjustments, icing, and his strengthening program. We focused on his sport as his rehabilitation.
III. Prognosis and Outcome
Prognosis was good but he was restricted from a number of activities that would flair his neck and shoulder. Adjustments of his spine and shoulder finally calmed and began to reversed the degenerative process but, full recovery was another discussion. His neck was of a person much older than the person I was looking at. Pain was the easy part and he was feeling great relatively quickly. Ultimately he was back swimming as that was his goal.
IV. Dr. Nassab’s Discussion
He understood that there were some restrictions and worked hard to find alternative activities. As an example, I asked that he never pull a weight behind his neck in the gym, so he found another way of doing that exercise that would not impede his recovery. Reversing a degenerative condition can happen with time, as our bodies have the ability.
However, some degenerative states never fully recover to 100%. Instead the function of the area recovers 100%. Meaning you will receive the maximum ability that your body will allow without further damage or injury.
There are varied forms of arthritis and Chiropractic should be your first treatment of choice.I chose this particular patient to address the issue that arthritis can only happen to a certain age group, it can affect anyone.

This is an informational discussion for you and to present and share with your family and friends.
